Believe it or not, color can play a large role in setting the tone and feel of your wedding. If you’re having a hard time deciding which color palette to choose for the big day, you’re not alone! Here are a few tips to help you select the perfect colors.

1) Consider the Season

When choosing a color scheme, it’s important to consider the time of year you’re getting married. You want the colors you choose to create unity and harmony that tie the event together. We associate different colors with different times of the year, with lighter colors indicating spring and summer and darker, moodier colors lending themselves to colder weather. For example, bright yellow might not be the best choice for a December wedding. Instead, consider darker jewel tones and moody color palettes.

2) Consider the Location

Whether you’re getting married outside, in a church, or at your family’s summer cabin by the lake, it’s important to think about how the colors you choose will look on site. In any location, notice the colors already available in the landscape or surrounding architecture and think of colors that will unify and enhance the space.

3) Colors have meaning

Colors are closely associated with emotion and can make us feel a certain way. Here are some of the colors and the emotions we associate with them:

Red: Passion, importance, love

Orange: Playful, energetic, vibrant

Yellow: Happy, friendly

Green: Natural, stable, prosperous

Blue: Serene, trustworthy, inviting

Purple: Luxurious, mysterious, romantic

Pink: Feminine, innocent

4) What’s trending/Pantone color of the year

If you’re really stuck and having a hard time deciding, you can always look at what’s trending right now in the color world! The Pantone Color Institute is recognized around the world for palette recommendations, seasonal trend forecasts, and as a leading source for color information. The 2018 Pantone Color of the Year is Ultra Violet. Here’s what Pantone has to say about this beautiful hue:

“Complex and contemplative, Ultra Violet suggests the mysteries of the cosmos, the intrigue of what lies ahead, and the discoveries beyond where we are now. The vast and limitless night sky is symbolic of what is possible and continues to inspire the desire to pursue a world beyond our own.”
